Oprah Supports Kamala Harris: Former President Blasts Media Icon Over Kamala Harris Interview

Donald Trump Slams Oprah Winfrey: 'This Isn't the Real Oprah'

Former US President Donald Trump has joined the already latest brouhaha that surrounds media and business mogul Oprah Winfrey. This new match in the long-dormant feud broke out when Oprah streamed an event with Vice President Kamala Harris, who, of course, is now Trump's main opponent for the upcoming 2024 presidential race.

United for America Event Causes Controversy

This event, "United for America," was designed to rally people's support behind Harris as she runs to win her own place as the Democratic candidate following a decision made by President Joe Biden to step down of the race on July 2024. Oprah used her influence well to help strengthen the message from the Vice President.

This was no ordinary livestream; it was a star-studded affair. Hollywood heavyweights like Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lopez, and Chris Rock joined in. Harris used the moment to push her agenda—restoring abortion rights, cutting middle-class costs, and addressing gun violence. Little did she know that within hours, Trump would launch a counterattack, this time using his Truth Social platform.

Trump Fires Back on Truth Social

The former president didn't dawdle. On his platform, Truth Social, he went on a rant against Oprah. He said the occasional friend now criticizes him, mentioning Oprah's previous request for him to appear in her last Network Television Show. "It was my honor, with my family, to do it," he wrote, but dark humor ensued:

"When I watched her interview yesterday with a woman who is destroying, through her complete and total incompetence, America, I couldn't help but think this isn't the real Oprah," he declared. Trump then accused Winfrey of supporting policies that would open the U.S. borders to "terrorists, drug dealers, and human traffickers"—a bold claim that aligns with his repeated criticism of the current administration's immigration policies.

Oprah and Kamala: An Uneasy Alliance?

Nowhere, it seems, did Trump stop. But instead, he concluded that, by doing this interview, Harris was "foolish" and accused her of having "no clue as to what she was talking about." She could not even answer simple questions on inflation, on the cost of goods, or on the situation at the U.S. border, according to Trump. His words dripped with scorn as he pointed out that Oprah, one of the most seasoned interviewers in media history, was left "embarrassed" by answers from Harris. "Oprah wanted to crawl under the table!" he added with dramatic flair.

A Friendship Ripped Apart by Politics

This wasn't always the case. Once, in fact, Oprah and Trump reciprocated fondness for each other. In 2000, Trump had even proposed that Oprah would top his list as vice president if he ran for political office. Oprah, for her part, had penned, "What a team!" The political tidal waves of 2016 changed all this, when, in endorsing Hillary Clinton, Oprah signaled the termination of their warm relationship.

Now, with Oprah showing up unannounced at the Democratic National Convention and endorsing Kamala Harris, it seems that is the permanent break.

A False Allegation? Trump's Appearance on Oprah's Show

As the scandal of Trump's attack continued to grow, another fact emerged. Trump has said that he was one of Oprah's last guests on her show. However, records indicate that he hosted Oprah the last time actually on February 7, 2011 well before the show ended. Yet, as with Oprah's last week of shows, note here is the fact that there was no mentioning of his name in the list of mega-stars like Tom Hanks, Madonna and Stevie Wonder.

Yet this does not seem to affect his followers. Let's face it, the attack on Oprah's political stance was something that resonated well with him and his followers in general and speaks to the depth of polarization of U.S. politics today.

Oprah Remains Mum

So far, Oprah has not uttered one word on the subject. Her publicist wouldn't comment and it seems unlikely that America's most private billionaire will say a thing about the gross mishaps of Trump.
Instead, Oprah continues her speeches with eloquence, elucidating Kamala Harris, and pushing the message of unity and progress that she feels the country so desperately needs.

Comments during Trump's Rally

Trump's hatred for Harris and Oprah wasn't restricted to social media. At a campaign in Wilmington, North Carolina, he taunted the crowd by saying if they had watched the Oprah interview. "That's not going to be president, and Oprah didn't know what the hell to do," he sneered. Trump's crowd burst into laughter as the newest layman's gallery of an embarrassed Vice President was left flailing and an uncomfortable Oprah trying to regain her grip over things.

A battle for influence

This newest round in the ongoing Trump-Oprah sparring reflects a larger struggle for influence across the political landscape. On one side, Trump continues to lead the right-wing zeitgeist, campaigning on issues such as border insecurity and inflationary problems-the ailings of national decline, and dislocation. On the other side, Oprah, perhaps America's most iconic figure in media, has invested her extraordinary cultural capital in behalf of Harris as part of an effort to mobilize the center-left.

Since this is a battle between two larger-than-life figures, and since it involves Donald Trump against Oprah Winfrey at the helm, drama has entered into the already unpredictable political saga of 2024. Whether Oprah will speak or keep quiet is anybody's guess, but it can easily be surmised that both sides will look at a raging battle in the coming months.
